It is said that once the dam has
broken, the waters are unstoppable.
Perhaps there is some metaphoric validity to this statement.
Consider:
One taking care of business to the exclusion of self expression
Is unexpectedly opened
Expression flows unfettered
Until stemmed by illness.
Upon restored health, expressive
need grows anew
Manifesting itself in myriad forms.
A Chinese fortune cookie, proposes
a self-fulfilling prophecy,
"You will receive much blessing from self expression."
Clay finds shapes yet undiscovered
Christmas dawns with each opening of the kiln.
Neglected brushes and pencils scream
their discontent
Ears unable to stop their entreaties
Ferrules snap upright as fingers encircle
Bristles whisper-kiss cheek and lips
Paper, ever the seductress, begs to be made wet.
Silent words stop slumber's normal
flow
Coming faster and harder than before
Begging to be recorded
Unable to resist longer
Typing offers peristhentesis
Which soothes and renews
Making room for more.
Music coats the mid layers of consciousness
Bringing scenes long unthought to fore
Transporting to a satisfying realm
Cerebral, yet real
Coloring everything in the physical
Most delicious tints
Washes make the bland exhilarating.
Layers, realms, real, unreal, physical,
cerebral
It all fits
Pleasure and pain
Birth the oxymoronic flow
Which self propels once begun
Splashing unnexpected blessings
Upon all it touches.
It is unstoppable
Too beneficial to thwart
Evolution of spirit demands it.
